Post a song a day

The purpose of this thread is to share music. I will try to post daily and encourage you to do the same, but you don't have to, if you just want to post a song or two every once in a while that's fine too
Today's song:

Old music from the southern United States

A thread for music from the southern U.S., from the 1800s up until the 1960s, give or take. Negro music, work songs, gospel songs, religious hymns, ragtime and early blues. Old-time Appalachian and mountain music are also welcome.

This music interests me a lot for many reasons. There is so much emotion in this music, the raw and unfiltered aesthetic really resonates with me. These were real people with real problems and they dealt with these problems through their music. Some of the religious recordings, especially from the black churches, feel hypnotic. It's like the music puts you in a trance.
Another thing is the mystery that surrounds many of these songs. Most, if not all, of these performers weren't performers in the professional sense. Most of them were farmers, countrymen, laborers or workhands. Just everyday normal people like you and I. Many of these would have faded into obscurity if not for the likes of Alan Lomax and his father, who set out to record this music in the early 20th century. Even so, little is known about a lot of these musicians and some may never be identified.
Here are some of my favorites: (Warning: There's a loud, split-second burst of static at 6:57, probably a recording error.)

Non-conventional music

This thread is to share and discuss non-conventional music. Music that most people wouldn't call music
Here's a few discussion points to start conversation:
>1. How about we start by discussing what is music in the first place?
Imo it's sound. Like, literally any sound is music. Even audiobooks
>2. Does "non"-music have any value?
Yes, because in my opinion it "expands our horizons" on what music can be. I think having preconceived notions of what music has to be is a very awful and limiting thing, and having these subjectively bizarre takes on it might help pushing away these walls that would otherwise weight on less "weird" musicians
>3. Do you listen to it? If so, how is it different from listening to more typical music?
I sometimes listen to noise, to drown out other sounds I don't like, otherwise I rarely listen to this type of music more than once. But sometimes I might feel like listening to something weird, to experience something new

Here's some stuff I'm aware of:
Noise, the obvious
The opposite
free jazz
R: 4 / I: 4 This album.. one of my favorite thrash albums of all time really. It brings me back to the days when all I did was just listen to thrash in my room and watch anime. Those days were kind of sad but they were nice too.

General metal thread btw.

ITT: Talk about songs that you hate that everyone else loves.

ITT some songs are popular because they are good and, sometimes, there are songs that you have no clue why the masses love. In this thread, we are going to talk about songs you hate that everyone else loves. The song doesn't have to hit song necessarily. I'll start.
"Love Bites" by Def Leppard is one of the worst examples of a forced power ballad from the 80s for many reasons. One obvious reason is that Hysteria is one of the worst albums of all time. Songs like "Love Bite" showed that Def Leppard sold out. Instead of appealing to the hard rockers of the time like they did with Pyromania, Def Leppard decided to appeal to people who are fans of pop. This is a really bad match for their singer Joe Elliot because frankly is not that great of a singer. Joe relies heavily on studio magic and, it shows when he sings along in the song. In "Love Bites," Elliot tries to be thoughtful and sensitive but, he only comes across as cheesy. He almost sounds like he is crying it is pathetic that this song was a number 1 hit song. The band doesn't play anything noteworthy and, the singer is intolerable. Most people love this song and the album Hysteria, while I couldn't hate the song and album more.

Ambient music

Some people like to listen to relaxed jazzy hip hoppy stuff when studying/working, however for me ambient is where it's at. It's even less distracting but still fills the silence nicely
Very drone:

Post music with supposedly paranormal origins.
>some wackjob claims to have taken a trip to an alternate dimension where the Beatles never broke up. He managed to snag a tape of a Beatles album called "Everyday Chemistry" before he returned to this dimension. It's clearly bullshit, the songs are obviously just remixes of songs from their solo careers. But it's still pretty neat to listen to, definitely worthwhile for any Beatles fan.

>find cool new chan with appreciation for cyberpunk, the fight for internet anonymity, extermination of bots, stuff like that
>see it has a music board
>everybody's just masturbating to Ariana Grande
>the ones that aren't calling Grande their "queen" are raving over other female "musicians" that are 83% silicone
>obviously value appearance over music
Made me kinda sad. Anyways, post cyberpunk-inspired music.

Merchandise is an important part of being a fan of music. Post-music-related merchandise: Vinyl LPs, CDs, DVDs, Appeal, Concert photos/Ticket, etc. So /mu/ talk about your thoughts and memories on whatever you are posting here. You can also talk about merchandise you want to purchase in the future. Be sure to post a photo of what you are talking about for quality purposes. I'll start.
Vain Glory Opera is Edguy's first of five classic albums. While it does not have the best products it has great songs. Tracks such the Until We Rise Again, Vain Glory Opera, and No More Foolin' are Power Metal to a T and Power Metal at its best. These tracks are fast, energetic, and catchy. Other tracks like How Many Miles and Out of Control are great mid-paced track that has an epic feel to them. Scarlet Rose is a very ballad that shows off singer Tobias Sammet's fantastic. I remember getting this around the time I graduated high school. It was pricey, but it was a great reward for finishing a tough four years. The variant I purchased is beautiful and satisfying for me to look at. I got the cd for this album for my birthday last year.

Album rec thread

Recommend an album you like to fellow anons!
Write a short description, explain what you like about it and why you think it's worth a listen, maybe suggest one song to try it out
Let me start:
Black Moth Super Rainbow - Dandelion gum
This is a pretty lively, dreamy/psychedelic album. It has amazing synths (not really of the modern type) and while it sometimes gets kinda noisy or experimental it still always remains very musical. I'd say it feels pretty warm, even cozy, and it has a bittersweet element to it
It might sound a bit weird to some, but I really recommend giving it a try. It's pretty unique, with a great atmosphere. So it's not surprising I found it from a flash
A good starting song would be:

/mu/ makes an album

Let's make an album!
- submit a track with a name and it ends up in the album (to submit use or any site from which I can download an audio file. Preferibly submit a wav file)
- suggest artist name, album name and/or album art. We'll pick with a poll later
Feel free to submit music even if you're a beginner, our goal is to have fun, not make a masterpiece
In the end I'll make a bandcamp page and put the album there
ps I'd prefer you don't use vocaroo to submit tracks because it fucks up the audio quality iirc
Years ago in high school I had a classmate named Audi, and my teacher would always reference this song. I seem to recall it being called Audelia or Audalia or Audilia or something. It may have had a different name but I know it said the name Audelia (or however its spelled) in it multiple times.

It was about someone having killed their girlfriend/spouse named audelia. I remember it specifically talked about having tied her to a chair, I remember that. It was stylistically similar to Johnny Cash. It may or may not have been by him.

Does anyone know what song this is? I've been going crazy trying to find it.

Post fighting/combat music to make a playlist,
not just actual military or music used in movies, but actual songs, music from anime, heck even regular audio (like audio transcrips of the bible or whatever) that fit that type of feeling
music to fight people in halo or videogames, music to watch combat videos on youtube, music to conduct raids or autistic shitfests or even to start the beta uprising!

Scenario Game

Post a song that goes with the above post's scenario, then provide a scenario for the next guy. I'll do the first round to show how it would work.
>You have a nightmare so vivid that you cannot go back to sleep. You rise from your bed and choose to take a walk through the cold city street to clear your head. Unusually, there is not another soul in sight. Perhaps this is what people mean when they speak of the "witching hour?" As you aimlessly wander, the flickering street lights seem to make demons and spirits dance just beyond the corners of your vision.

Why does it appeal to me so much, /mu/? I just can't put my finger on it, why do I like this band so much? I don't think I'm part of target group.

Music making learning resources

Share stuff related to making music

This is a video which explains the basics of modern western music from the beginning, in a prettily animated way. I recommend this to people who are interested in music but don't know much yet, like what notes/scales are exactly

There is also part two and three, which deal with harmony (chords) and rhythm respectively. I haven't watched them yet, but the harmony one seems to go into deeper concepts like functional harmony (which may be basic for you, but not for everyone), the rhythm I think will be an introduction like the melody one

feel-like-shit albums

I discovered nin from "hurt", and this album is something. I can't relate to most of the lyrics (except some lines, for example "I have lived so many lives all in my head") but I feel it a lot, despite me not having lived or felt things of that intensity. Self titled comes in my mind spontaneously certain days.
What are some of your feel-like-shit albums?
R: 4 / I: 0

Genres are a social construct

Media genres are only a social construct to differentiate different kinds of instrumentals/patterns and associate the kind of people who listen to them. But as people shouldn't try to describe themselves with a certain group, I believe media [more specifically music and video] shouldn't be made to fit any specific genre.
My favorite media blurs the lines between these genres. Things like obscure anime[example: Pani Poni Dashu], fan spinoffs[example: Star Wreck], experimental/*core music[example: David Bowie, Death Grips, Goreshit].

Tell me are there any weird music you listen to that you couldn't apply once specific genre to?
Do you think music producers should conform to a respective genre rather than experiment with something that may fail entirely?

tldr; I love weird ass muzak
