I liked the shining force soundtrack: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=gtluqzRN9VI&list=PL6F05F0EFED0606EB&index=24
It's for the sega genesis. I like how the music having much limitation imposed the tracks to be very loopable, in the sense that even if it's a 30 second loop it's not annoying, it's fun to listen over and over again. It's clear that there were some pretty skilled people behind this

I think that the ost in general was pretty good. But what struck me the most were the drum fills in that track (starting at 3:20). In the game it really created a magical moment for me (it was obviously during a boss fight)

It's cool, but it doesn't sound very special to me tbh. Maybe it's because I haven't played the game though

Awesome soundtrack that a musician remastered!
Good for halloween too!

Recently found the grand turismo 4 soundtrack and I like it quite a bit, even if I haven't played the game
I found it because of a youtuber using this as background music:

The lisa games have such incredible and unique osts
This one is a phase two of a final boss for a chapter
normally for games its intense and builds up tension
but this song doesn't it just is in your face and joking around
its excellent.
and notice how it says version this is how each individual enemy has a different speed or pitch of the same song.
compare the second phase battle music which is far harder to beat in gameplay wise to the first stage.
the first stage is far far slower and has a very different atmosphere, it sounds more controlled and level headed.

hope you guys enjoyed my paragraph about a games ost

put's a chill down my spine

Akira Yamaoka's work on the Silent Hill games is fucking amazing. The score to the first four games is honestly some of the best music I've heard. He can twist so many emotions in a tune.

Like this one. It's fast paced, powerful and full of emotion. Like the riff calls forth some abandoned memory and the drums carry you to reach for it. You run to find it. The whole song feels like a rush of melancholia that triumphantly refuses to give up, that passionately longs for something it once had.

And then you find it... Was it what you thought? You discovered the truth, is it cold to the touch or does it welcome you with warm hands? Either way, you made it... and now you're here.

I love how he can squeeze so much emotion out of a simple tune like this. It's simple but feels so beautiful. Makes me want to crawl up inside it and hide. There's almost a childlike innocence to it, a melody that harks back to a simpler time. A melody that makes you wish it could have gone differently.

Then he dishes out something like this. A gut churning, skull-drilling, terrifying harsh noise monstrosity. Pure genius.

I feel game music resonates with people more than film scores because games as a medium make you that much more involved in the experience. This isn't to say I don't appreciate music in film, but I feel it's much harder to find a track, that one specific track, that can captivate you the way a game can. Here's some of my faves from some of my favorite games.

As for stuff other than games, there's been no other intro theme that puts me in the mood to watch it's respective show than this.

Those are some good songs! The first one sounds very fuzzy, I like it. I remember Over the Garden Wall, that was a great watch.
I also think it's hard to find a film track that hits as hard as vidya. Mostly because more often than not movies use soundtracks over original compositions. I think a good film score can be just as impactful. Here are some of my favorites from film scores.

This is actually a tune by Bach, played on an electric piano for the film.

John Carpenter is a great filmmaker but most forget he's also a great musician.

This last one is probably my favorite. It's such a powerful tune. It's from a movie called Rock & Rule, which has really good music. However, the movie never became that popular so the soundtrack was never officially released and only survived on bootleg cassettes.

The music from the S.T.A.L.K.E.R series, especially the older builds, is very moody.

I would like to share with you all this beautifully serene piece of music from the game War of Rights. To my ears, at least, this is a phenomenal track, and I cannot recall the last time that music has ever made me feel as viscerally emotional as this piece has. I do not exaggerate even a little when I say that I almost cried upon sitting down and listening to it for the first time. I am quite not sure why it is that the piece speaks to me so much, or how to describe just what it makes me feel. I suppose it could best be likened to picrelated Gondola; a feeling of complete and total peace and tranquility.

Are there any pieces from OSTs which have made you truly /feel/, anon?
