Personally, I love vaporwave. It's become more than an ironic meme and has actually become a beautiful artform.

I'm a metalfag, but I sometimes listen to it. Nice music tbh. Africa by Toto is great in Vaporwave.

"Water. Earth. Fire. Air. Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked. Only the Avatar, master of all four elements, could stop them, but when the world needed him most, he vanished. A hundred years passed and my brother and I discovered the new Avatar, an airbender named Aang. And although his airbending skills are great, he has a lot to learn before he's ready to save anyone. But I believe Aang can save the world."

I have no idea about their history, but they are quite different.

Synthwave is thematically more sci fi and futuristic, while vaporwave is more nostalgic, slower and wants to invoke feelings of bittersweetness in the hears of listeners.

Hi reddit

 No.140[D]

i never really gave it much thought until a few months ago where some dude sent me a link listing out all the subgenres of vapourwave and theres probably around 600 fuckin million of them holy shit
now i seriously listen to it and analyse it because imo its transcended way past ironic shitposts and is now its own, separate, thriving artform
