.. 2 years ago my cousin's family moved to a new house and that meant they had to go trough their old documents and decide what to keep and what to trow away... so yes my cousin found the number and kept it, and yes I went to Mexico last summer (I live in the US now) and visited him... he tells me about the phone number so we both get excited and decided to call out of nostalgia... the first attempt we dialed incorrectly so we try again, and it rings about 4 times when suddenly... someone picks up... "Bueno" an "old" woman in a very serious angry voice said... (bueno is what Mexicans say when we pick up the phone), I turn on the speaker so my cousin can hear and thinking someone at random picked up the phone I decided to troll her and so I start speaking in English asking about some made up delivery that is late and that I demand getting before Tomorrow afternoon... She says "No, yo no le puedo ayudar tiene que hablar con el maestro. El maestro es el que sabe como hace las cosas, preguntele a el..." (Translation: No, I can't help you, you have to talk to the master/teacher. The Master/Teacher
knows how to take care of his business, ask him...), I look at my cousin and he is trying his best not to laugh and signaling me with his fingers to "keep it going" so I switched to spanish and asked the woman were the "Master" was and she says (in spanish) that the "master" just left her house after dropping off his "girls" with her "kid". At this point I can only keep trolling or hang up so I asked her if she could get the master for me and put him in the phone, She replies very angrily
Your Fortune: Better not tell you now
.."NO! USTED HABLE CON EL, BUSQUELO! VE CON EL MAESTRO! VE! ANDALE! YA NO ME MOLESTES HABLA CON EL MAESTRO! (Transalation: "NO! YOU TALK TO HIM, LOOK FOR HIM! GO WITH THE MASTER! GO! COME ON! DON"T BOTHER ME ANYMORE! TALK TO THE MASTER!). I wanted to hang up but my cousin is having a blast for some reason (weird sense of humor i guess..) so he takes the phone and tells the woman in sort of "business manager" way that she should be ashamed of her self for representing the "master" so poorly and that he is going to let him know personally of her terrible performance as secretary... To what she replied that we needed to talk to the master and stop bugging her, and after that, no matter what we said to her, she kept telling us the same thing over and over again.. "Go talk to the master and stop bugging me" (in spanish of course). We hung up and decided to jump in the car and drive straight to his old house to see if we could spot the woman and maybe talk to her from the car if she looked harmless, we didn't really have a plan I mean, we were just curious and didn't know what to expect so we went and looked around willing to improvise if the situation required it. We drove past his old house looking for the phone but it wasn't there any more, just the concrete base on the floor, not even the pole or cables, as if a giant had weeded it out of the ground from the root! We were so confused, we parked in his old drive way, got out of the car and walked to where the phone used to be, I turned my cellphone flash light on and aimed it at the hole but i couldn't see a thing...
Your Fortune: Good news will come to you by mail
... pitch black darkness, I even took a picture and a video recording with the flash on and nothing came out! We knocked at one of my cousin's neighbors house (they were good friends with his parents) and when they open the door they looked very glad to see him, he said we were in the neighborhood taking care of some house details and that he wanted to say hi, they told us to come in and we had a couple of beers with them, then my cousin asked them very casually if they had noticed that the street phone wasn't there anymore, they didn't seem to care... they said something like "oh yeah I remember the phone... I have no idea when it was removed though... who uses those things anymore anywas... haha right?" We were disapointed, if they didn't know when the phone was removed, no one else would. We finished our drinks, thanked them and left, we got in the car and went back to my cousins house (the new one), then we decided to call again... this time, as soon as the call went through, someone picked up, it was a man this time, he sounded very calm "bueno" he said... I got a little scared so I turned the speaker on so i could "include" my cousin in the conversation, then I said (trying to sound confident)...
Your Fortune: Very Bad Luck
..."Hola, buenas tardes. Estoy tratando de hablar al telefono publico de l..." (Translation: "Hello, Good afternoon. Im trying to call the public street phone from th..." Then he interrumpted me and with the same calmed voice he said "Si, ya se que andan buscando y ya los vi que vinieron hace rato, pero ya nunca mas lo van a volver a encontrar, y esta es la ultima vez que me hablan aqui. Buenas tardes. (Translation: "Yes, I now what you are looking for and I saw you come looking for it earlier today, but you are not going to ever find it.. and this is the last time you call me here. Good Afternoon." Call disconnects... no hang up sounds.. just silence.. then 5 seconds later, my phone says the call is over. We Immediately called back, but the wrong number recording played right after we dialed (you know the one that says: "the number you have dialed is wrong... yada yada, check the number and try again" but in spanish of course), that time an every other time we tried again, we tried using other phones but we got the same result. The next day we kept trying but no luck...
Sometimes when I am with my cousin on the phone I remember about the number and I try again after we hang up, but until today I have had no luck.
