This thread is for content and discussion centered around the Nijiura maids.
The Nijiura maids are a tradition of net characters originating from the Nijiura boards of Futaba Channel, the oldest being born circa 2004.
Shaped by anyone willing to depict them, their personalities and designs are not codified under any central piece of media. Nijiura Maid content is scattered around the net in a similar way to Touhou; many of the accepted characterizations have no root in any source material and were produced memetically. Still, some have made efforts to categorize and order the maids. This is because autism is a universal constant.
https://www.ostan-collections.net/wiki/index.php/Nijiura_and_Futaba_Characters#The_Nijiura_Maids
There is no real metric for what it takes to make a Nijiura maid. Some may argue that Nijiura maids can only come from 2ch, probably because autism is a universal constant. Some patterns can be seen in the most well-established maids:
>name ends with an i
>uses the -san honorific
>name has some double meaning or wordplay which defines their character. Nemui-san (nemui: sleepy) is narcoleptic. Shitai-san is dead (shitai: corpse) and erotic (shitai: "I want to do it"). Medoi-san is the typical maid (meido: maid) and is easily annoyed (medoi: troublesome).

My personal favorite maid is Yakui-san. She is a popular maid these days. She's the biggest face in a genre of music called maidcore, where musicians produce music under the name of one of the maids. Her character trait is that she is addicted to OTC pharmaceuticals (Yakuji: Medicine). You will find her constantly fucked up on something and often totally passed out. She spends her life in a haze of delirious illusion. On the bright side, if you're sick, she'll know just what to offer to make you feel better. Just be aware that she'll probably overdo it. I think it's important that she abuses pharmaceuticals: a lot of art shows her as a garden variety stoner. In my mind she doesn't smoke weed or do any cool kid drugs. She just goes to a drug store and fills a shopping cart with whatever she can get without a license and drinks so much Pedialyte and swallows so many antihystamines that she gets high against all logic. That's what her name means, and that's the image I like: she's not a party girl she's an unapologetic mess and I think that's awesome.
Here's Yakui in action

That last one is the most prolific Yakui the Maid artist, a Russian musician that used to produce music under the name Scythe of Luna. They have strong post-punk influence and it's great music that keeps me coming back, but sometimes I feel like the current scene is getting a little dominated by that sound compared to older stuff which was a lot more eclectic and weird.

You should read some of the Japanese articles on Nijiura maids from at.wiki or dic.nico as they elaborate a lot more on the maids than the linked english article as I'm sure if you really like a maid you would want to know their entire origin and not just small excerpts from western articles.
https://dic.pixiv.net/en/a/Nijiura (Pixiv has english articles on them)
https://w.atwiki.jp/2jiwiki/pages/30.html list of maid characters working in Nijiura (Just ctrl + f and write the maids name)
https://w.atwiki.jp/2jiwiki/pages/468.html Article on Yakui-san:
Nicknames: ヤッキー (Yakky) or (ヤクちゃん) Yaku-chan.
A maid who loves medicine. She is the younger sister of ちょうざいさん (Chouzai-san -> "pharmacy" or "dispensing (medication)" (unofficial). She is also very popular overseas.

After getting caught sampling her family’s pharmacy products, she was kicked out of her home. Her knowledge of pharmaceuticals is top-tier, ranging from "happy powder" to experimental clinical drugs. She has access to both legal and illegal supply routes and can even create her own custom formulations. For example, the preservatives used by 死体 (Shitai-san -> dead body) and her peers are homemade by Yakui-san.
Once a month, she is restrained and forced to detox, during which she becomes calm. The handcuffs on her arm are remnants from these sessions, not because she is a criminal (though it is curious, given her involvement in illegal drugs, that she is not treated as a criminal within the threads).
When she is off drugs, she is relatively sensible. However, when she is high, she becomes exceptionally quirky and competent, but if she overdoses even slightly, she becomes completely useless—a highly temperamental state. When high, she can see and hear things others cannot. Due to the drugs, her growth has been stunted, leaving her short in stature. Despite her reckless use of drugs, she strictly avoids using them to manipulate people's emotions.
She is the origin of numerous color-variant derivative maids, including ヘルシィさん (literally Healthy-san) (unofficial).

[Origin of the Name]
Named after the Japanese word for “medicine” (ヤク, yaku -> dope, narcotic, drug)
[Activity on Nijiura]
In the early days, she often wet herself and was recommended by 雪さん (Yuki-san -> Snow) as a legitimate successor. However, this idea was opposed by other teachers in the "Maid Academy" and eventually shelved.
She is a peer of Shitai-san and Dorei-san (どれいさん -> Slave), and together the three are often referred to as the 「不謹慎メイド」 -> “Inappropriate Maids.” Along with ティッシュメイド (literally Tissue Maid), they are considered part of the second graduating class of the Maid Academy.
Yakui-san has been subjected to incidents such as being assaulted by オゾいさん (Ozoi-san -> frightening or dreadful) (unofficial) or celebrating her birthday with くどいさん (Kudoi-san -> chatterbox) due to their shared birth date.
Since her creation, she has consistently maintained a steady level of popularity and has never "fallen into the graveyard" (a metaphor for forgotten characters). Perhaps due to her association with drug-related themes, she is also frequently discussed on 4chan.

Speech:
She refers to her master as → Danna (旦那) or Goshujin (ご主人) both meaning “master.” Her first-person pronoun is → Asshi (あっし) a humble, archaic form of “I”. She ends her sentences with → ~ssu (~ッス).

https://dic.nicovideo.jp/a/ヤクいさん
"For your health, let’s take lots of medicine, Goshujin! It feels great, ~ssu!"
Overview, Goshujin!
She is one of the Nijiura Maids created on Nijiura. Her defining features include short purple hair, a maid uniform, striped knee-high socks, unhealthy-looking skin, dark circles under her eyes, and unfocused pupils. She is a severe drug addict who always carries capsules and syringes, frequently succumbing to strange hallucinations or experiencing seizures. She speaks in a distinctive manner, often ending her sentences with "~ssu yo."
Due to her strong impact as a character, she is frequently seen on platforms like PIXIV. She forms a trio with two other Nijiura Maids, Shitai-san and Dorei-san.

Additionally, she belongs to the same "yandere" category of Nijiura Maids as other characters, such as:
Ozoi-san, a J-horror-inspired creature.
ヤバいさん (Yabai-san -> dangerous), a gijinka (anthropomorphized) character based on Minerva from The Wicked Eyes Fly to the Full Moon (邪眼は月輪に飛ぶ)

あ、先輩ッスよ!-> "Ah, it’s Senpai, ~ssu!"

Also I see that you linked a bunch of youtube videos from Yakui-san so I am wondering if you checked out the nico nico tag of yakui-san? (If you dont have a VPN and are worried of the restrictions put on foreigners on the website do not worry: https://www.vpngate.net/en/howto_softether.aspx make sure it is always on when browsing nico nico or you'll skip out on tons of videos.)
https://www.nicovideo.jp/search/虹裏
https://www.nicovideo.jp/search/ヤクいさん
there's really not a lot for Nijiura maids but its still worth checking out. Try to search for Nijiura maid names individually as they might not be tagged properly but it might also be a case where stuff was directly posted to futaba-channel and so it is kind of lost to time. Maybe its worth to look into Japanese flash archives on archive.org and see if there's any flash videos created with Nijiura maids.

Habibi. When I made this thread, I was hopeful that 22chan would be the place that would help me find more about the Nijiura maids. And you have delivered, my own resources drew short. You are the light of my evening sky and for you I would seize the moon and grasp it until the night drew dark as the godless sea.

There's a few videos of Medoi-san https://www.nicovideo.jp/tag/めどいさん and I really like this particular one which I've seen many years ago from the dic.nico article https://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm127956 [Play]
https://dic.pixiv.net/en/a/Medoi-san
https://dic.nicovideo.jp/a/めどいさん
https://w.atwiki.jp/2jiwiki/pages/271.html
Medoi-san is a first-generation graduate of the Maid Academy (A fictional academy located in Nijiura Town said to be the alma mater of most Nijiura Maids. Commonly abbreviated as Me-Gaku メ(Maid)学(School)). She is said to be the younger sister of だりぃさん (Darii-san -> Bothersome) and datめどいさん (Dame-Medoi-san -> Useless Medoi) though their sibling relationship is subject to various interpretations.
[Origin of the Character]
Medoi-san originated from a self-drawn illustration of a maid with a tired expression and the caption "Medoi-san" This initial drawing inspired various settings and further character development, solidifying her as a distinct personality. This later became the origin of the "〇〇-i" naming convention for Nijiura Maids.
[Activity on Nijiura]
Medoi-san is considered the origin of the category now referred to as "Nijiura Maids." Without her, the current Nijiura Maids would not exist. She is truly the starting point for all Nijiura Maids (虹メ). (Although there were maid characters before her, Medoi-san was the first whose personality traits were expressed through her name. Additionally, the practice of adding "-san" to names originates from her.) As such, even with the overwhelming number of Nijiura Maids that exist today, she retains an immovable presence, and it can be said that no Nijiura Maid is unaware of her.
As her name and her catchphrase "Medoi" (meaning "bothersome" or "lazy") suggest, she is extremely lazy. In the early days, she would often avoid work and accomplish very little. However, in an effort to avoid trouble, she began to adopt the most efficient methods, and despite her lethargic appearance, she became known as a maid who completes her tasks quickly and reliably.
Because of this, she is considered particularly skilled as a maid, handling tasks like cooking (with a wide variety of recipes), household chores, driving (she holds a gold driver’s license), and even growing her own vegetables..
Over time, as more maids appeared who not only avoided work but even questioned their status as maids, Medoi-san’s reputation for diligence and competence has only continued to grow.

She is also known to be a heavy drinker, and on her birthday, while her other peers were passed out drunk, she was seen drinking one-on-one at a red lantern bar. She is often seen riding a ダブルマッスル (literally "Double Muscle") for shopping and frequently works alongside ちこいさん (Chikoi-san -> tiny)

i'll leave it at that for now since this thread will just turn into translating wiki articles, but if you have access to it translate using ChatGPT but make sure it gives you everything as it is and doesn't try to mess with the TL. Knowing some Japanese will help in spotting mistakes.

I guess it's kind of interesting to me that there's a lot of documentation on Japanese internet culture on 22chan but we are not really seen as having anything to do with /jp/ by outsiders...? I also think it's really easy to find information on this stuff too but for some reason people fail to go past English search terms into Japanese ones. Most of everything on the Japanese internet is documented through at.wiki, dic.nico, dic.pixiv, and a few personal blog websites, and now with ChatGPT and other transcribe/translation tools like whisper its hard to struggle with translation as much as before.
