On old 22chan there was a thread for various anime and manga recommendations, and I decided to "revive" it
You may think of it as a book club
Wether old or new does not matter
Simply post what you read/watch or did so in the past

My contribution is a manga I found through the aforementioned previous thread.
If by chance the one who posted this there reads this; thank you very much, it really stuck with me.

I hope you guys will enjoy it as much as I did

Any decent survivalist manga?
Drifting classroom is a decent read. Desert punk is pretty damn good. I think there was a manga called Deamon head but i forgot the name. that had a great story but it featured a scene of degeneracy that honestly could have been skipped.

No problem! One thing i like about that manga is that it was adapted from a story written on an imageboard by an anon and to me, that makes me happy.

Speaking of online manga, I've been reading a manga which is a decent adaption of dark souls lore
https://www.webtoons.com/en/challenge/dark-souls-the-war-of-the-ancient-dragons/list?title_no=148426&page=9
Pretty damn hyped. It reminds me of the "DARK SOULS: THE AGE OF FIRE" by titan comics. No creative liberties that was taken sucks, and lore that was adapted was done quite well. And the art is just magical.
The bloodborne comic on the other hand started good but sucks as you read forward, such as making lady maria gay (he had to throw in some gay shit and NSFW, didn't he?) and the orphan of kos storyline doesn't make too much sense and overall, everything feels too rushed.

Blue gender is an excellent anime, Although the ending is lack luster. My advice: Enjoy the ride. Also, Watch with subs.

I enjoyed Gundam unicorn for its story and animation, but the dialogue can become long winded, preachy or poorly timed. For example, two characters who are trying to kill each other is having a 5-minute-long moral debate with flashy eyepopping combat. It would have been better if they just talked it out beforehand to show they are trying to avoid conflict. Does not dimmish the final product.

Once the show reaches its halfway point it becomes more apparent.

The premise alone is interesting, school teleports to an alternate dimension and all of the adults either kill themselves or go mad. all of the kids are regular children who look and behave like children and do the shit they normally do. shit gets pretty dark but its not too rough to where its unbearable, and there is gore but it's not really bad to the point where you'd get mad or just too disgusted. (Battle royale is what I'm using as a reference) a harrowing tale and a well written one with a satisfying ending.

If you love lovecraft like i do, then you might be interested in Gou Tanabe's lovecraft adaptions which are incredible to say the least.

This is from the anime Nurse Witch Komugi-chan Magikarte: https://nyaa.si/view/882319 It's rather self explanatory just by the video files as to why you should be watching this.
For me it's personally rather weird not see the name MOSAIC.WAV plastered over the entire thing since this is the exact type of stuff they would have produced music for but this thing aired back in 2002 and they only started being active in like 2003.

Just a minute in and the production quality of the intro is off the charts.

Jesus christ Komugi-chan is basically just a parody of fucking everything, I don't even have words to describe it. I thought i could just jot my feelings down on a note book but i actually can't. Overall good shit Everyone needs to watch.

I would recommend you guys watch the additional two episodes if you haven't yet on the Z Ova: https://nyaa.si/view/1466255
Basically I would recommend you skip the first episode and just watch the final one since the first one doesn't has much to offer at all it's honestly just really fucking boring and I wish it was rather spent on making something similar to the last or first one from the first OVA.
(Video 1) Please pay attention or you just might miss those AA shirts in the vending machine.
(Video 2) >>271 You can see a reference to Dokuro-chan which basically means the animes both referenced each other.
(Video 4) it's honestly my favorite because I fucking LOVE Puyo Puyo Tetris and I cannot believe it was actually referenced here.

I should probably mention that this series was made by the creator of Monogatari and that both OVAS are based of an anime called: The SoulTaker: Tamashii-gari where Kyousuke is the actual main protagonist of the series which I find just ridiculous looking at now after experiencing all of this.
>>279
It might be not that surprising given it was at the period of time where South Park was at its height of popularity.
Anonymous Tue 29/08/2023 7:25:07 AM 1 year ago No. 281
>>279
I do also know that back in 2007 when Nico Nico Douga went live there was a noticeable influx of uploads within the South Park tag: https://www.nicovideo.jp/search/%E3%82%B5%E3%82%A6%E3%82%B9%E3%83%91%E3%83%BC%E3%82%AF%20?f_range=0&l_range=0&opt_md=&start=&end=
It's worth noting that these videos garnered quite a respectable number of views so considering this it's plausible that it was even more popular back when this episode came out (2005)

I watched Rozen Maiden recently with friends and while all the seasons (including the 2013 version) were good, the original series is the best of the lot. It's all still worth watching though.

I have a couple recommendations for manga.
The first is Hatarakanai Futari which is about the daily life of two neet siblings. Its a very calming series that actually deals with both the good and bad of neet life. The girl has social anxiety but the brother has a few friends. A lot of the characters who are introduced throughout the many volumes (there are 22 volumes translated currently) have a flaw, something they lack, or something they want that and the two siblings generally end up helping out inadvertently. probably one of the best slice of life mangas in my eyes.
The second one is boku no tsuma wa kanjou ga nai. its about a marriage between a salaryman and a housework robot. It has one of the best depictions of robots in a near future world I have ever seen. not too futuristic where its pretty much fantasy but not too demeaning to the power that robots can give to society. Its very heartwarming seeing the main couple interact. The drama in the manga is excellently done too, focusing on the impacts of robots on humanity or visa versa.
Thirdly we have Takarakuji de 40 oku Atatta ndakedo Isekai ni Ijuu Suru. This is an actually GOOD Isekai manga. There is not a gamey setting with levels and skill points put in to explain away someones skill in something. Theres no instant harem because mc is so kind and strong and cool. The story is about a dude who wins the lottery, gets harassed by people wanting him to give them money, goes out to the countryside in a old house his family owns, and inside the house is a hallway that transports him to a cave in another world with a village nearby. He can go back and forth to his world through the cave. it deals with another world in a really interesting manner with the technological advancements causing most of the strife in the book.
all of the manga I mentioned are on mangadex but I would recommend setting up tachidesk instead of using mangadex as its got a much nicer interface, multiple sources, and a better library function.

I very much enjoyed Violet Evergarden. The anime I mean, I've never read the light novel.
Anonymous Thu 14/12/2023 7:39:20 AM 11 months ago No. 348
I watched season one (and a few episodes of season two) of one piece.
Fucking great, One of the best anime i've watched in a while although it would have been best if they had streamlined the anime a bit because it seemed like it there a story could have been told in a single episode instead of fucking 20.
My biggest fear is if the show will "carry the momentum" (the way the story is told, the way the characters behave and soforth) or if after 100 episodes in or something everything will go to shit and watching further episodes will be a waste of time.

god it took me forever to find it but Kyoudai Nishioka makes VERY trippy manga, childish and whimsical yet gorey and dark as fuck.

terraformars has a similar issue that berserk has, where the author realised he could write more once he gained funding and an audience and it affected the tone of the story moving forward. berserk is fucking great in the black swordsmen ark and especially golden age but as time goes on it kind of becomes a shonen manga, sort of like an edgy one piece. is it bad? no its just it lost its form. with terraformars, i would suggest just reading volume 1, you get a neat sci-fi action survival horror book and it wraps up cleanly. as the story progresses its not "bad" per-se but it becomes a shonen manga and if you end up enjoying volume one you might not enjoy the other volumes.

Fucking exposition, At times there is way too much. Also there's a problem like in tv where you have to recap shit so if theres new audience watching well guess what they'll take 5 minutes recapping obvious shit, Is it unwatchable? If you hate that shit then yes but if your digging the story then no. Will they fix it in the new reboot anime coming out? Maybe?

If you felt kind of sad that Akagi never got a second season, I think this anime would be for you. I am currently watching ONE OUTS, which is basically a baseball sports anime with gambling elements. It stars the same voice actor (Masato Hagiwara) as the protagonist in Akagi. Honestly, I didn’t know much about baseball or have any interest in it before watching, similar to my experience with Richii Mahjong in Akagi. I’d almost say it's unlike any other sports anime due to the gambling aspect and its unique style. On another note, I also tried watching Slam Dunk but couldn’t get hooked, as the animation felt worse than modern h-anime productions, with images just being dragged around on the x-y axis. For a sports anime, it seems a bit of a laughing stock compared to what was achievable during that era.

G fighter gundam is under rated. It was given bad reviews from normalniggers and people at the time who must have wanted it to be the exact same as regular mobile suit gundam. Dispite appearing "campy" it actually does take itself quite seriously. If you enjoyed watching saturday morning cartoons then you might like it, because at times you'll get similar vibes. When it comes down to the dub, i'm 50-50 because it does contain iconic voice acting at times but also somewhat terrible at others, also there's heavy localisation.

the foxy pirate arc is skippable. shit quality animation, tons of added bloat that only exists in the anime version, and content was cut that makes zero sense.

Recently stumbled upon a super cool and kind of spooky surreal manga recently. It's called The Wizard and the Red Pilgrim, and I really like it. The art is absolutely superb and the characters are fun and cool. I'd definitely recommend it.
