I'm probably going to try and beat one of the pokemon games i own, don't know which one though. Advice would be appreciated. I own yellow, red, blue, silver, gold, (thought i owned emerald and ruby, where did they go?) firered, pearl, diamond, platnum, soulsilver, white, black 2, pokemon y, and ultramoon. Spin off games, pokemon ranger, pokemon mystery dungeon blue rescue team.
Where will i start? Don't fucking know. Got bored of pokemon Y, wonder if i was stupid? Probably ultramoon lole since i just bought it, curious about platnum because i damn near beat diamond back in the day. Would have started playing emerald but i'm pissed because i don't know where the damn game is. Mixed between regular ass red, yellow or firered (want to play the most hardcore, fun, edgy version) although pikachu following you is a plus.
No matter what, i want to do a nuzlock challenge, No revives, dead pokemon get released, pokemon on my team get named, might make things interesting. Going to avoid the "area" rule, insofar i won't catch multiples but i'll try and fill in the pokedex, and collect male/female variants, and evolved forms. Don't give a shit about stats, though. Why? for fun, make the game more emotional, anything that doesn't hit those two reasons gets avoided, don't want to bore myself collecting pokemon if it isn't fun, or explore if there isn't any reason.

I 'tismd out a while back on my opinion of the first three gens, might help you narrow down for a Nuzlocke. Are you on original hardware or emulating? If you're on hardware, make sure your cartridges from gen 3 and before have functioning internal batteries. Otherwise you won't be able to save your game. The battery is pretty easy to replace, but does require a bit of soldering and a special screwdriver. You might be able to get it done pretty cheap at a small electronics place if you provide the battery.
I've nuzlocked Emerald and Ruby the most, too bad you can't find them. I think they're balanced well for the challenge. Kind of appropriate since that's where the whole thing started. The pikachu in Yellow is cute but that game is a huge meme, not good for nuzlockes.

As an update for how that Genlocke went, I got wiped really early on in Platinum lol. It was the Jupiter fight in the Galactic HQ in Eterna, she had a Skuntank with Night Slash which is kind of insane at that point of the game and blindsided me. I'd bet a lot of people get screwed over in that fight.

Just wanted to point this out, because it's hardcore, exactly the type of shit that gives pokemon some weight. I remember stuff being mentioned in game like how pokemon and humans are alike, and that humans used to wed pokemon in the early days before in game civilisation although in the english translation they changed it to "sat at the same table" (as mentioned in diamond/pearl) but i'm pretty sure more of the deep lore was ingame. Irl normalniggers jerking off about the gamefreak leak led me to it and honestly fucking they should read jung and maybe study comparative mythology or just mythology in general, speaking of jung

That probably wasn't the only mythological figure used as a basis for him, but it comes to mind. Also not all pokemon are based after myth, some like lopbunny are inspired by pop culture (playboy bunny) or in jokes, but it is pretty fucking neat.

I poked through that leak when it happened. The stories instantly reminded me of really old folklore from all over, particularly japan. Big bummer it became dramabait "zomg raep in my pokemans???" They felt like stories you would hear in-world, if the worldbuilding was allowed to get more serious. Or else, a writing exercise by a writer trying to get into the heads of the people who would live in this fictional world.
The myths remind me of Takeshi Shudo, who was head writer of the anime for the first few years. The man took his job very seriously and was, respectfully, a weirdo. Drugs, medical issues, depressive and manic episodes, the whole shebang. The only pokemon he outright created was Lugia and he went mad over it. Takeshi definitely had a tendency to bring a grandiosity to his work. He died in 2010, so the later years of his life match when the materials of the leak would have been coming about. I don't think it would be a surprising twist if he was the hand behind these myths.

Named myself "Red" (how original) and chose a charmander whom i named "ember" (couldn't think of a better name lol)
Thought it was funny that the nurse at the pokemon center said "We hope to see you again!"

Caught a few more pokeymanz, rattata, pidgey and a weedle who seems to be the problem child. Barry (named after the bee movie) is weak as fuck and his attacks are literally for shit. (didn't realise they where weak as fuck) No matter what i do i usually have to send another pokemon to save his ass at the last second so it's taking time raising his level up to 8, like my other pokemon. He reached 7 and evolved, which is nice i guess.

Evolution, why did they seriously pretend like pikachu is the mascot and that evolving him is gay? Yes i like pokemon like haunter but maybe i should get used to gengar, your pokemon was literally made to evolve, better moves, improved stats. Not evolving is like starving your pokemons potential. Can you seriously beat the entire game with a pichu? Pokemon yellow must suck because pikachu is LOCKED IN, (still will play it in the future though lol) you'll probably hit a difficulty spike and if your a dumb kid you'll probably think its your own fault and you need to git gud when in reality it was the meme that got in the way of you actually winning and enjoying the game. Now, the way to counter this is with some type of pikachu exclusive, rare item or ability that gives him an edge, or better yet, lets say a special mega evolution that gives him some type of special edge. I guess that would be an interesting trade off to make middle teir pokemon useful.
Speaking of pikachu i haven't made it to the point where i can catch him but is it just me or is gen 1 fat fuck pikachu more iconic? and he kinda does look like a retarded mouse vs the newer version who kinda reminds me of a rabbit.

Maybe this is just me, but the soundtrack for FireRed is.... superfluous? I can understand remaking the soundtrack to take advantage of a nice stereo headset and whatever improvments the gameboy advance system can provide, but i just gotta ask why it's just way too over the top in some cases? many songs don't even sound the same. The soundfont is good but the way they used it sounds off to me, maybe i'm biased because i really enjoy the gen 1 soundtrack lol.

I've been trying to find translated documents and stuff since from what i understand originally they wanted to focus on exploring all of japan, and collecting all the pokemon therein, but then the shift happened to focus on other states. It seems that they wanted to focus on postwar japan, with team rocket being a yakuza representative, and the altering of the environment to an urbanised culture (led to insects and animals leaving) being one the themes played with throughout the game. After the war only kids remained and the rate on which society changed (because of the war) means that at the age of 10, kids are considered adults and can marry or become pokemon trainers and the like.
The decision to move beyond japan probably stems from a desire to appeal to a broader international audience, which to me is kind of sad because it could be the reason why pokemon kind of became retarded, watering down a decent concept for the sake of appealing to westerners. speaking of appealing to westerners, in one of the leaks it was revealed that they have an internal group devoted to avoiding offenses to cultures, and other shit, so it could be the the reason why the story shifted from exploring japan, to the world.

THEN you track your ass back to Spirit Tower Well in Route 209, assuming you didn't fuck up, spiritomb should appear.
Lucky me, i have all three copies of the game (and another ds) and specifically diamond is to a point where i have shit ready so when i start playing platinum, i can catch it. God damn did they make him difficult, i don't know if there's a lore reason why, maybe your like stealing 32 of other peoples souls or something to awaken the beast which is metal if true but still, pain in the neck and no real way to actually no the instructions without a gameguide, or searching online lol.

playing regular red. i was expecting brock to kick my ass since all i had was 3 level 11 pokemon, a charmander, nidorino and a spearo and yet i beat him to a bloody pulp, what the fuck
i just entered the battle just to see what level pokemon he had and bounce to go grind and find a team that would be effective against rock/ground pokemon and yet i smoked him.
he had a level 10 geodude and a level 14 onyx, i thought i was fucked when i saw the onyx but i got his defence down and beat him
He damn near killed few of my guys but it wasn't so bad, maybe the firered version will be more difficult.

I was just grinding to get my guys to level 10 and i found a pikachu out of nowhere, holy shit. Name? Hitler. He's incredible and proof of the master race, damn near every attack he does is a crit and he is leveling up super fast.

Some of the dialoge, and items in firered changed, as an example youngster ben says "i like shorts, they're delightfully comfy and easier to wear" Also they cencored Space Shuttle Columbia to "SPACE SHUTTLE", LOL i wonder why.
After beating brock you get rock tomb instead of bind, also on route 22 i would highly suggest getting a mankey and leveling him up to 9, you'll get a fighting move and smoke brock in seconds.

Foolishly, i realised i should have stayed at mt moon to explore fully, and most importantly to grind. I'm fortunate that i'm paranoid and i decided to instead fully explore Cerulean city and to take out trainers, and grind on wild pokemon instead of fucking with misty, clearly i need to reach roughly level 20 before it's safe for me to even bother leaving. Blue was the one who showed me my fuck up and i was lucky to take him out without losing anyone. I don't know about anyone else but i feel like it's funny i'm fully using buffs and debuffs, moves like harden and leer where before i would have regarded them as "useless" and replaced them with another physical or special attack. Also this time i'm fully using potions and various medicines instead of selling them. It feels like that New Vegas DLC where your stuck in the casino and all the useless drugs you would have sold before is basically a godsend, hell it feels like pokemon is a lot fucking harder and moving a hell of alot slower. Not that i'm complaining, it's fun and immersive from my perspective, and i'm proud of my pokemon of surviving after so many close close calls. I just need to slow my role. Minor complaint? Lack of trainers and more low level wild pokemon, with low EXP yeald. Maybe its me but something feels off.

Story wise, something i like about red is that unlike later games, the hidden aspects of the game are pretty much left for the players to discover and experience, and for the most part the actual "story" is you beating all the gym leaders. There's nothing getting in your way and telling you "oh you need to fight god" or "boo hoo team meanie leader stole my pokedex so instead of beating all the gyms you need to go and get my thing back because i'm too much of a faggot"
For the most part like the early zelda games you are pretty much given freedom to do whatever without too much handholding. Also another thing to note is that before MT moon, you could always go back to home, where now after moon it appears that you've been cut off, which was very clever, gives you the feeling of being far away from home or that "well shit, looks like there's no going back"
