Beginning in June 2007, users on 2channel's YouTube board began to suspect that the MyList rankings on Nico Nico Douga were being manipulated. This led to the creation of an official term called 工作 (Manipulation) after a July 1st thread pointed out the artificial inflation of views, comments, and MyLists. By July 27, 2007, a thread titled ニコニコマイリストのランキング工作動画について (Regarding Mylist Ranking Manipulation Videos on Nico Nico Douga) was created, marking a significant moment as it was dedicated to resisting ranking manipulation on Nico Nico Douga. The discussion in the thread mainly centered around the activities of a group known as 80垢 (80 Accounts), derived from the practice of adding 400 Mylist votes to several videos in the early hours, with 400/5 = 80 accounts (since each account could create up to 5 Mylists at that time). Their activities were particularly noticeable during the early morning hours, where they would push videos like the infamous "The Idolmaster KOTOKO Princess Bride!" (https://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm280671 [Play], IM@S was a pioneer in ranking manipulation believe it or not) and "Tsurupettan" to the top of the Nico Nico Douga Mylist rankings, suggesting a coordinated effort. As this method was exposed, discussions in the thread intensified and attracted not only those who aimed to raise awareness about the issue but also individuals who wanted to exploit it, including 信者 (Believers/Fans), アンチ (Antis/Foes), and ただの愉快犯 (Just Pranksters) who looked at 80 Account as a deity. This led to either 順工作 (Forward Manipulation, where users manipulate trends, excluding genuinely popular videos) or 逆工作 (Reverse Manipulation, where users vandalize videos suspected of manipulation). The creators of the videos who were caught in the crossfire often deleted their videos because of this. Other users in the thread adopted a more radical approach, deciding to engage in manipulation themselves as a way to raise awareness about the problem. This led to the thread’s original purpose being sidetracked, eventually resulting in the split of users and the creation of the ニコニコ動画工作支持スレ【80垢神】 (Nico Nico Douga Manipulation Support Thread) General, on the same day, where users began organizing their own manipulations, partly as a form of protest against the 80 Accounts.
Members of the Manipulation Support thread began to manipulate a video called アメリカン ゲイ レスリング2 (American Gay Wrestling 2, https://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm200572 [Play]) that was uploaded on April 26, 2007, which depicted two men wrestling with the saturation on max and low video quality. After, a few more videos were uploaded to the アメゲイ (Amegay) series until August 10, 2007, when the first video titled 本格的 ガチムチパンツレスリング (Authentic Gachimuchi Pants Wrestling) from the Gachimuchi Pants Wrestling series was uploaded and manipulated into the rankings. However, it was shortly deleted due to the original creator deactivating his account, but then reuploaded on September 30, 2007: https://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm1175788 [Play]
Gachimuchi Pants Wrestling (GPW) is a wrestling style with a special rule: if your pants get taken off, you lose.
So why did this video become one of the key driving forces behind Nico Nico Douga's Golden years, and why does it remain one of the most viewed videos on the platform, with 9.8 million views to this day? This wasn’t just some passing joke; it became deeply ingrained in Japanese otaku culture, being referenced in anime, video games, news, and even on game talk shows, cementing its place in the Japanese internet otaku sphere.
The reason is the same as why a lot of other foreign media on the platform gained popularity during that era: 空耳 (mishearings). The two men wrestling in the video, Billy Herrington (a.k.a Aniki) and Danny Lee (a.k.a Kiyoshi Kazuya), had thick New England/Canadian accents combined with intense grunting, which led Japanese viewers to mishear nearly every line as something completely different in their own language.
For example, when Aniki shouts to Kazuya, "Huh? How do you like that, huh?" it was misheard as Thick and Saucy Fried Rice and now Aniki's favorite food is Ankake Chahan:

But a lot of them are actually derived from how close a character looks to some kind of celebrity like Hatakeyama Bacon who resembles both the Japanese lightweight boxer Takanori Hatakeyama and American actor and musician Kevin Bacon.

Also particularly regarding Anime MADs, many studios have the ability to take down any video containing even a small clip of their anime on Nico Nico Douga, but many of them choose not to do so because they recognize that Anime MADs, from an analytical standpoint, have actually helped them achieve many more sales than they could have otherwise which was especially relevant back then. Of course, there are a few instances like the Anime Rurouni Kenshin (KYM) where Fuji TV will seize any opportunity to remove any type of video featuring their anime, even if it's just a small clip. So, the workaround for that was to collaborate and completely re-animate parts of the series that were frequently used in MAD videos, so Fuji TV couldn't claim it as their property.
Please try to refrain from posting anything created by overseas individuals and any YTPMV Cover-styled MADs; you can usually identify those using tags like 「原曲不使用」 (Original Song Not Used: that recreate the entire BGM with a bunch of fake instrumentally sounding samples).
You do not need to translate a MAD in order to post it here, although I bet it would be greatly appreciated by anyone browsing the thread, and often you can find the lyrics online. If you do decide to do it, here are a few tools you could probably use:

About that Anime that the Lucky Star video is parodying it is completely unknown to foreigners. It's basically about some alien angel that came to earth to help a unlucky boy who then creates more accidents, and I'm unsure if you can even find any subtitles for the episodes anywhere. The most important issue is that "Hanasaka Tenshi Tenten-kun" aired on Saturday evenings at 6 o'clock.
As Shonen Jump has many child readers, Shueisha probably took that into account and scheduled the broadcast for the evening. However, the lyrics clearly pick a fight with the PTA.
Originally, this dirty joke-filled song...
originated when Tenten-kun, amidst classmates worrying about the other protagonist Hideyuki, suggested, "Let's sing together to cheer ourselves up."
His classmates immediately retorted, "Can we sing lyrics like these?" which left many readers bursting into laughter. It was a scene that no one would have imagined a few months later becoming the theme song of the anime adaptation.
During the broadcast, the Bla Bla Bla Boozes, who were performing the theme song on a variety show that handled Fuji TV anime, appeared in bizarre attire. (Even Shonen Jump's magazine commented, "Who are these guys?")
When the program's host, Koji Imada, asked, "You were clearly saying 'that,' right?" regarding the lyrics:

So a bit of history behind the first video. The MMD creator kiyoP discovered the video by Moymoy Palaboy mimicking BACKSTREET BOYS Everybody (Backstreet's Back) MV with facial expressions and decided to create a MMD animation for the 7th MMD CUP out of it and actually released the animation files to be used by other users.

I was the first to attach this emoticon 「+（0ﾟ・∀・）++」 to アッーウッウッイネイネ. The base of this emoticon is '+（0ﾟ・∀・） + ﾜｸﾃｶ +' (In this context ﾜｸﾃｶ = wakuwaku tekateka = exciting, shiny) and I wanted to express the twinkling of the character's eyes with '++' and the shiny overall picture with ”0ﾟ”. I've decided to revive this thread after going through all my mylists on Nico Nico Douga and revisiting a collection of Idolm@ster MADs I had saved a long time ago. If my memory serves me right, the previous thread didn't last long due to the site's shutdown and a lack of unique responses due to me not really explaining what these are supposed to be.
Idolm@ster was originally an arcade game by Bandai Namco. In the game, you play as a producer, and your job is to nurture your very own idol. It was later released on Xbox (the first game) and PlayStation (the second game, this one is shit).
in 2007 when people initially uploaded their gameplay videos to NND of IM@S on the Xbox and arcade it got incredibly popular and a kind of MAD craze happened around that time and by February 10, 2010 it crossed the 100,000 video mark.
If you don't know MAD/M@D refers to the editing of videos and audio to give them new meanings. This work involves creators using their imagination to transform original works into new creations, differentiating them from straightforward plagiarism. There are many types of different MADs and a video is usually tagged with what kind of MAD it is supposed to be (like Sound MAD, Game MAD, Movie MAD, etc.)

Since we are approaching Halloween I am going to start off this thread with my most favorite IM@S MAD video which is originally the opening to the anime called Hakaba Kitaro (Graveyard Kitaro), and so what I found really interesting about this opening is that it shows a bunch of clever used colorized cut outs of the original Hakaba Kitaro manga's first chapter which was actually the series that served as a inspiration for the popular horror stories manga and anime series called Gegege no Kintaro.
There is a TV size and full version for this MAD, and I love how for the full he went the extra step to draw bits that were not actually included in the original opening.
