i will leave a quick review of the aquarius expedition in no mans sky.
i had some problems with the previous expedition, adrift. it was cool at first but then it got boring real fast. in short its chores and collecting bullshit thousands of times for "prizes". aquarious had a mini story about a dude called the angler, which was one of the things that kept me going. some of the missions was actually fun, like collecting pearls or trying to catch cerian fish. part of the problem with the "certian fish" part is that i had to find a scorched planet an it took me so fucking long. (couldn't find the right planet) i dont have the time to play videogames so it was especially painful. another problem was resource gathering, as always is it really fun to sit there and mine a rock for 5 hours? not exactly. what about the rewards? cosmetics. i think they look cool but, if you specifically dont care then it was worthless from the get go.

what i mean by resource gathering, is that you need power to do things or recharge things, and to stay alive and then you need to craft so basically you literally have to grind and collect shit for a few hours. if you dont have any in game money you can't just buy the shit you need and call it a day and alot of times they won't have what you need exactly or it'll cost too much so your pretty much on your own.

Isn't that the entirety of no man's sky? A complete boring grind fest where basically nothing ever happens. Says I played it on my steam for 50+ hours in like 2022 although I don't remember playing for that long but all I remember is going from one planet to another planet that was completely randomly generated with nothing to really do apart from like mining resources, scanning stuff for your index, maybe sometimes finding an abandoned base to explore. The only interesting aspect I remember was like upgrading or buying a new ship but even the fell extremely short and I forgot all about it. Why couldn't it have been just a single planet or a few planets with stuff to do everywhere you go...

so i played a bit of nier automata. thd gameplay is that of darksouls, you have the doge button with i frames, light attack, heavy attack, and then a new thing which is the dron thing that can shoot at people. you also still have to deal with a large amount of enemies swarming you, and gimmick bosses with patterns to memorise.
i'm playing on the nintendo switch and part of the problem that comes to mind is the camera. in the intro there is several sequences that change the cameras perspective and gameplay, and it zooms out way too fucking far to the point where i have no god damn clue what i'm doing whatsoever. i'd also like it if they didn't rely on the "swarm enemies" tactic since its kind of an old meme for games. i find the story kind of dubious as of yet because it makes no sense. your a robot right? you die and get reset and you don't really lose anything and they feel emotions but also have to suppress their feelings but like such a big deal was made out of a character dying for no real reason.
part of the thing i enjoyed was the bullet hell stuff, haven't played a game with those features and i thought it was neat. keep in mind i played up to the point where you make it on to earth and free roam so i don't know much so my opinion is more surface-level.

I tried playing a bit of Elin (I pirated it from here since it's an early access title: https://cs.rin.ru/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=137363) and, well, some stuff put me off from the game. The inventory management is actual hell as there are too many item variations, not enough storage. you cut down a tree, and instead of just getting “wood” you get some random type of wood. cut down a few more trees, and now you’re stuck figuring out where the hell to put all this junk. A big selling point seems to be that it's also a colony manager but the system makes not much sense when almost all of the NPCs feel dead. All of them have some random portrait slapped on them, so i’ll talk to a kid npc and suddenly see some old dude as their portrait and when you hit “talk” every npc has basically the same lines. The stamina system has a "realism' gimmick applied to it that limits how many actions you can do in a day which honestly is more annoying than immersive. The keybinds have a steep learning curve, no way around it. for the first few hours, you’re gonna keep mixing up buttons and misclicking all over the place. honestly, it’s kind of dumb how unintuitive it feels. The building system is a bit of a nightmare since you are manually placing every single object with a very confusing interface, and no, you can’t even drag walls. you have to manually place them too, piece by piece. it’s tedious as hell. I'm not sure if there's like a "fun" part yet because it feels like it wants me to endlessly grind for features that are not implemented yet, and I have not even gotten to the "paying taxes" part people keep complaining about. it’s a case of a game trying to be too many things at once, so it sacrifices depth in each. Nothing feels fleshed out enough to actually work well, apart from maybe the dungeon-crawler aspect. Maybe I'll try playing some more of it later.

A thread to talk about TBoI, be it flash or Rebirth and its DLC.
I've been having a streak of good runs in flash lately, the most impactful one was a Cain one on hard mode: The first treasure room had The inner eye, so I had x3 tears from the get go and then I got a Joker card still on Basement I, and the Devil room had Guppy's tail and Dead cat. Since I also had a couple of soul hearts I accepted the deal and went on to the next floor only to find an Eternal challenge room with Sacred heart, making me OP. I kept breezing through the rest of the game so well that I got the eternal transformation before going to The womb, and there I got a Devil deal with Guppy's paw, letting me transform into Guppy as well as getting a bunch of soul hearts. At this point I had also fought Krampus, getting A lump of coal, and since I had also taken a ton of range up tears and had spectral tears due to the eternal transformation my tears did an absurd amount of damage, almost Afterbirth+ tier. Then I steamrolled everything up to The cathedral where I beat Isaac without much problem. The only bad thing about the entire run was that it was the run where I unlocked the Polaroid so I couldn't go to The chest.

The run in the video is the last one I've played, first item was Book of Belial so I immediately ditched Maggy's Yum heart. Then immediately after I found an Eternal challenge room with Blood of the martyr, giving me a nice damage up, then I picked up Tough love, which really saved me early on since the teeth I ocassionaly fired were lifesavers and were only increased by the luck up pills I found later on. The game flowed normally from there until I got The small rock and some tears up pills in Necropolis, giving me the tear rate I needed. I also got The battery from a bum and in the same floor I got The nail from a Devil deal, so I was able to get a ton of soul hearts on top of my massive quantity of regular ones. I did my best to not get hit so I ended up with 13 red hearts and 15 soul ones by Utero II (I didn't even know hearts could have 3 rows lol), of which I only lost a couple on the Cathedral and then lost a ton of them in The chest, where I luckily got The inner eye as my last item so I easily stomped Blue baby. It was my first Maggy run in this file, too, how lucky.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that I got some insanely lucky drops on Depths II like the arcade giving me Skatole after a few tries and A Dollar on the first try. Sadly I had literally no use for the money past that point since I didn't want to
risk getting hit just to find an arcade.
Then on Scarred womb II I was bombing some rocks to get some pills and one of them dropped Blood clot, which is pretty rare.
A super Wrath dropped Mr. Mega so using bombs against enemies was even more viable after that point and it helped me defeat Mom's heart even faster.

Spent the entire fucking day, probably over 2 hours of them pressing R to get a decent Treasure room start but I finally did Ultra hard. Tech+Proptosis is cracked.

Also, you get THIS of all things for doing Ultra hard? I want Edmund's head on a fucking stick

this was quite the decent run for a noob like me getting the perfect items for a run where my buddies pretty much do everything for me while I stand idly by. I got really good combo items like Paschal Candle, Gnawed Leaf, Mom's Knife, Holy Mantle, etc. and beat the heart with ease.

I've been playing Afterbirth these last few days. I got Dead God like a month ago and I was experimenting with mods to try and recreate WotL (Rebirth of the Lamb, Eternal edition, Reflashed, only standard size rooms, etc.) but sadly all of the mods were either incomplete, obsolete or had a incompatibilities with each other; I was tired of dealing with that so i decided to go get my old-ass Afterbirth save from 2016 or so and get Platinum God in it and the experience was shocking.

I didn't remember everything being so easy, it's probably because the enemy bullets travel faster in Repentance and the item pool is bloated to shit in Repentance (719 items in total) compared to afterbirth's relatively modest item pool (436 items in total). I immediately tried out Greed mode and completely demolished it with all the characters I had unlocked at that point, my Greed machine counter was at like 108 before being abandoned and I got it to 1k in 2 days (picrel). I used to waste so much fucking time in this mode and it felt impossible back then, I even skipped on studying for some exams because a run looked promising and now I'm just going through it like it's nothing. Did it with The Lost as well as soon as I got the mantle (I didn't even have to use it against Ultra Greed lol) and then with Keeper as soon as I unlocked him, although that one took quite a few tries because I kept getting shit tier items, so I really don't have to touch Greed mode in this save again, thankfully.
Another shocking thing that I didn't remember at all is how Chaos used to work and how dogshit it was. In Repentance Chaos turns every single item pool into one and then everything draws the items from that giant pool so with 719 items breakfast only happens on a busted run. In Afterbirth, however, it seems that instead of doing that, Chaos draws from a random item pool instead and since all item pools are way smaller you're gonna get breakfasted really quickly, specially in Greed mode where it only takes one or two floors.
The D4 got a similar rework, in Repentance it rerolls every item individually and only among the same item pool you got it from (general one with chaos) and items you got and rerolled are marked as "unseen" so you can find them again if you rerolled them (and you can reroll into them again if you continue rerolling) but in Afterbirth it rerolls every item into every pool, not only that but it marks the items you get as "seen" so not only can you not get them again but you can't reroll into them either and with every reroll you get one step closer to getting breakfasted.

Another thing that had completely left my mind, probably to cope with the horror, is the special item system that used to be the standard until Repentance changed it to the infinitely superior Quality system. I didn't remember what the game considered "Special items" until I checked the wiki and was disgusted as soon as I saw the icons. Imagine getting cucked out of Sacred heart, Brimstone, Godhead or even Mom's knife because you saw (not even took, SAW) the fucking Ludovico technique or D100, it'd be funny if it wasn't the standard until 2021. Also it's worth noting how Soy milk, Lil' brimstone and the Stop watch were put on the same tier as the run-winning items mentioned previously.
Another much needed rework was the way the Angel/Devil rooms worked. It wouldn't have been a problem if Mega Satan didn't exist, but having to rely on winning a coinflip or getting Dad's key to fight him is infuriating. You can't guarantee an Angel deal next time by skipping the first Devil room, either, only way to truly guarantee is through the Sacrifice room, and The Lost has no access to that so you're stuck with Dad's key or the coinflip with him, so good luck if you got an insane run and only got a half of the key because that entire run was for nothing. It doesn't help that Angel deals are pretty shitty pre-Repentance and only worth visiting if you're risking it all for Sacred heart (or Godhead if you've completed The Lost).
And talking about The Lost, it's insane how much they buffed him in Afterbirth compared to the base game. In the base game he lacks spectral tears and don't get any starting item, not even the shitty D4, so you actually have to go through the entire thing without getting hit once with no advantages outside of flight. Even Tainted Lost in Repentance is easier because he makes it so HP items and the like never spawn but with base The Lost you have to deal with all the base Rebirth bullshit completely raw, including the complete randomness of getting to Mega Satan. The Holy mantle makes him easier than even WotL Blue baby, and since Repentance also changed his D4 (you'll never roll that shit because it removes your mantle) into an Eternal D6 (D6 that works like the one in WotL, has a chance to make the target items just disappear instead) and paired with the mantle you basically have a discount Isaac with infinite health. Any person who got Godhead as base Lost is an actual master and the game and this reputation stuck with him for years to come because I remember people treating him as the ultimate challenge of the game when he's a pretty exploitable character compared to Keeper who is the designated challenge character of the DLC and was pretty hard until they reworked him in Repentance. I guess people trying to beat Delirium in AB+ and getting telefragged in a second kept the flame of his rep alive, even if it's just because Delirium is some of the worst that has ever touched the franchise only next to Ridiculon's music.

I used MissingHud to track my stats, it's actually the first time I've ever modded Afterbirth because I used to play completely vanilla back in the day. I downloaded the charge bars mod as well which was implemented into the game by Afterbirth+ if I'm not mistaken, I wonder what other QoL stuff that I take for granted now can I put in the game.

One thing I actually dread going back to is Ultra hard. I could barely even complete it in Repentance with a Q4 starting item >>791 so I'll actually have to restart over and over to get something decent yet again. At least the annoying Repentance room layouts didn't exist here yet so it may not be that bad, all things considered. The other challenges are piss easy now and didn't even take more than the first run in some cases. I even speedran Slow roll because you are OP from the start and I got the Shovel in my first Devil deal so I shoveled my way to Depths 2, nuked Mom and beat the challenge in 6 minutes (I forgot to save the screenshot I took like a retard).

Playing with the roster of Isaac clones felt surprisingly fresh, probably because I just came from the gimmick-infested hell that is Repentance. Sometimes I just want an Isaac with different stats and play through classic room layouts, but I already have Wrath of the Lamb for that, I guess (not base Rebirth because it sucks dick).

These are my current thoughts on Afterbirth after revisiting it 7/8 years later, but only my initial thoughts since I've covered most of the basic stuff.

The Binding of Isaac: Repentance's online update is finally here. It's a nothingburger for most but in my case I've always wanted to play with other people and the beta/alpha back in January was a blast. It's highly recommended you go to options.ini (located in C:\Users(You)\Documents\My Games\Binding of Isaac Repentance+" and open "options.ini) after opening the game once and then setting "OnlineChatFilterEnabled" to 0 to disable the funny profanity filter. I also recommend you set "MaxRenderScale" and "MaxScale" to 3 for better visibility in larger rooms but that's just a personal preference. I could host some games here if 22anons have the game (and all of its DLC because this thing can't work without it)

i'll explain myself better.
dispite the change in tone (survival horror to action horror) and area (from crampt mining vessel to large city) it's still horrifying. the psychological horror is more obvious like dissapearing people from the previous game is now viceral hallucinations. the trade off is interesting because instead of being on a ship where everyone is dead or converted besides a small few, the majority of people are alive and under attack while you are doing shit.
they went for the cinegraphic opening for dead space 2 and it was well figured out, the escape from the looney bin is still memorable as fuck. besides the opening another favorite part is,the escape and the point where you meet up the interrogator who violently frees issac and changes his tone to friendly and kind of mournful, even appologising for all the shit they did to issac before offing himself.

Glen Schofield made a post on shitter about wanting to make a new dead space.
First, thank you so much for the kind words regarding Dead Space. Looking back, EA gave me the support & opportunity to bring it to life. It would be cool to do a new one
-Thanks again!

Why he would want to return to fucking EA is beyond me, Then again what would he do with the IP? If he's smart in my opinion it should be set in the universe, but with a diffrent protagonist with a focus on thd psychological horror aspect of the series. A new dead space with issac would be interesting because what game would be used to continue the series? OG dead space or a remake? would he abandon part two of the series or continue off of 3? the people that did the remake wanted to continue off of THEIR remake with an original story and ignore remaking dead space two, but after low sales of the 2023 game that was shelved.
Anonymous Fri 08/11/2024 6:38:52 PM 14 days ago No. 1055
i get that issac was desperate for a solution but i have no fucking clue how he could trust stross. clearly he's delusional and even if he does have a plan, stross is at his fucking breaking point and i swear the fucker is going to do something.
ellie is a fun character, for whatever reason she reminds me of laura croft, either way its nice to see another survivor who isn't going insane.
this is still a fine game, i like the challenge of the late game and i like the level design and the story. i like the one room with the lovecraft guy and his birds.
i still have to say though its tragic how necromorphs are kinda randomly peppered throughout the game (with exception to the child and baby necromorph) instead of diffrent themed necros per level.
i hope i'm not too vague but in the first game, basically they had diffrent enemies per area, story and situation with twitchers and advanced necros being the late game enemies being with the corruption of the ishimura and the guys from the military ship.
Anonymous Sat 09/11/2024 3:24:35 PM 13 days ago No. 1056
the voice acting was really something when issac saw the ishimura, and you can tell he was fucking terrified. and now i'm personally worried that i have to actually now re enter that place again, just walking in the opening area alone is kind of spooking me.

All of a sudden i'm reminded of my second playthrough of dead space. You see i made it to the point where you make it to the ship. I had all my weapons and items on me and i decided to fuck around to see if there was any hidden goodies and i hit the vent the necromorph was supposed to jump out of and i shit you not he popped out to say "hi". The scary music triggered BUT for whatever reason he wasn't violent, most likely because i don't think he was supposed to spawn yet so he just followed me around and all of those stupid faggots where just standing there asking me to open the door or whatever nonsense BUT THERES A NECROMORPH WHO WANTS TO BE MY FRIEND AND GIVE ME A HUG AND THEY DON'T EVEN NOTICE! Killed him anyway but nothing really came of it besides that one funny thing.

This thread is for discussion of the series Metal Gear Solid

It's strange because this game was hyped up by my parents for my entire life, i already knew of the story and the characters since i was a kid. My dad played all the games and my mom used to watched him. It was a pain because i was never allowed to play them, and i constantly had to wait untill "i was older" and even then they sold damn near all of it, i had to buy copies of what i could find third hand.
I played most of the games besides 4, revengance, metal gear 2 for the msx and metal gear solid. For what it's worth, It's a SOLID amirite series overall with both great gameplay, and story.

I actually played the games in chronological order, It was an experience for sure. after playing metal gear 5 ground zeroes and phantom pain and actually getting into metal gear for the msx it hit extra hard that venom snake was the big boss you killed, also in mother base in phantom pain the diamond dogs comment how its extra important to get rest and they make comments you'll later hear in metal gear and there's much, much more. You'd think the extra retcons would fuck shit up but not really, It's not that bad and to me it gave the later stories weight.

Although, zeroes was supposed to be the first mission in Phantom pain, and konami cut a fuck ton of content out of phantom pain and in a way, its like you as the player feel the phantom pain of what the game really should have been. I think a good chunk of lost content was leaked on youtube which includes a "mission 51". Also one of the lost missions is venom snake returning to where the whole ground zeroes inccident took place.

Playing Metal gear 2: Solid Snake.
It's much more fun then the first game. I realised that i'm an idiot and there was lasers in a room and i didn't use the goggles i just found to make them visible...
There was a room on the first floor with two guards and if you hide under a desk and stay still for a while, a military theme will play and the guards will salute and a voice from the speakers will say "attention" which is pretty wild.
I like how you can crouch in this game and how guards can be distracted and how they can roam around to try and find you unlike the first game where they just stand there.

I don't know if there's a lore reason for miller being useless in metal gear 2 unless he's actually a decoy or something.
So, i beat the first boss, which was pretty thrilling since it took me a long while to figure out how to kill him because of his habit to teleport. I like the amount of dialoge from the character unlike the previous game where there isn't much really.
Fuck NATO
I was happy to see that they re-used a throwaway character from the last game, it turns out the original name for the character was "blackcollar" which is an action sci-fi book with a similar character who's a space ninja and the name "black color" was a shitty translation from the english translators and they later changed the name to fucking "black ninja". i feel like that sequence of snake realising the governmet he's working for are a bunch of niggers is kind of related to mgs3 with big boss realising that the boss was a fall guy for the government, maybe thats just me though.

They finally updated the metal gear volume 1 collection to use 4K ultra HD. Really kept me waiting there.

I picked up metal gear 2 after a long while, i had just came back from staking the green hat guy through the jungle so i wouldn't get lost. I totally fucking forgot what i was supposed to do so after getting a stinger missle i backtracked to the sandy area and sure enougth, another boss battle but this time with a helicopter.
I'm a fan of the gimmick weapons and boss fights. I'm also a fan of the backtracking because atleast in this game i'm curious as of what's hiding behind locked doors.

Dear Sleepy Station Editors,
I virtually flipped through a couple of pages. Good stuff! Aside from the obligatory shitposting and gratuitous use of naughty language, it genuinely felt like I was reading an old magazine. I really like the mascot even if she is just milk-chan wearing dipper pines' clothes. The next issue needs more fake ads to really spice it up

If you're gonna make a video game magazine that's for people outside of your imageboard sphere why would you include your mascot and board culture which would be the equivalent of an inside joke? This is just advertising with extra steps and nothing to really justify it. The way this looks is as though it was left ambiguous on purpose to avoid breaking the rule and keep the thread up but actual readers would make the connection... Not sure if it was a pump and dump and OP will even bother coming back to this thread.

however, i'm TERRIBLE at streetfighter 2, even if i try and fight normally i always panic button mash and i end up getting raped. any advise on how to actually play would be appreciated.
my local arcade has Bishi Bashi Channel although i haven't tried it (yet), seems like minigames and it looks fun.

I found this odd quirk where the game can't decide on the nomenclature for its levels. I guess it's random but even so, I don't get it, PICK ONE. Game is Armed Police Batrider

i googled the story and it actually sounds really cool
how is the gameplay? is it the standard fare vertically scroller thing or does it have something going for it?

I've only played a little bit so far, but Its big draw is there's 18 playable ships to choose from, and how each ship plays can be tweaked slightly depending on what button you pick it with. It's kind of daunting. I still don't know which I prefer. It's by the devs of battle garegga and plays basically the same as that otherwise.

My arcade has all he machines rigged/modded to be "free to play", meaning you can play over and over and in some cases in certian games you just press a little button and you'll revive without any problem. The price for entry is 15 bucks and you can play for the whole day meaning you can really get your moneys worth. In my opinion this is better then Dave & Busters because 20 bucks is like an hour of gameplay if that, some games have a high token cost and it might mean your game time is lower. The trade off is that certian games you play will earn you tickets for sometimes quality goods like switch games and stuff but the ticket cost is kinda high if you actually converted it to actual money.

Over the last few years, my video game backlog has become bigger and bigger to the point that I don't know if I'll ever run out of games to play. People of working age seem to experience more game backlogs for a variety of reasons. In this thread, we will document our progress in whatever game we are playing. In this thread, we will be encouraged to finish games that we have already started. Your updates don't have to be much just do them to encourage yourself. I'll start. Recently I've started the Square Enix RPG Live a Live. Initially, I chose to play as a ninja character. I like fighting everyone I can. Usually, I poison the character and allow the enemy to die from a distance. The campaign has more to offer, but so far it's been fun.

I hate the character Sylvando. What I hate most about the character is how much Dragon Quest uses this character despite how annoying he is. His flamboyant behavior is either something you love or you hate, and I hate it. What I hate more about is that he is one of the more important side characters. His personality only makes me annoyed and makes it harder to play the game. Currently, I am at the part of the game he is finding all the party and I am having to motivate myself greatly to complete this part of the game.

So i'm at chapter 6, and i made it to the place where i never reached in my other playthroughs, the daycare. i have 21 cutter rounds 37 pulse rifle rounds, i'm guessing i'm fucked lol. my checkpoint is outside so i was thinking of spending a good chunk of my 67,000 credits on pulse rifle ammo. i made it inside the daycare a tiny bit and got swarmed by exploding necrorphs, and after being introduced to a mini childlike necromorph. i am guessing based on those two introduced critters i'm going to have a hell of a time surviving. (couldn't make myself walk in to the large ass theatre especially on the size and how fucking low on ammo i am) needless to say my knees are weak and my palms are sweaty.

It was actually not TOO bad, i stayed on the theater area which was higher ground and i used the machine gun and it worked out. Now i'm at chapter 9 and the difficulty is up the fucking roof.

the boss battle at the end of chapter 9 was shit and it felt like the type of thing in a stereotypical action game. you got to explode some bullshit and you have to kill a tripod at the same time, you have to cripple the tripod because if you kill it you'll waste ammo because it'll respawn over and over. you have to run to both sides of the room and shoot off an explosive at the thing (and not at the tripod) over and over.... waste of time really, kind of unfortunate because thd other boss battles in the game was actually really cool besides this bullshit. i'm getting ever closer to finishing the game for fucking once which is great because i have been stuck on an earlier chapter since forever.

I finished the Sylvando quest and it was an absolute slog. Now I am on the Jade quest which will be much more enjoyable. I guess I am going to play as all the party members before they find each other.

This is a thread for anons to post videos they take of their gameplay, and to talk about them.
In this clip, I fight a boss in Risk of Rain Returns as Mercenary. I've recently been addicted to this game and the Mercenary is one of my favorite characters. Especially once you get good with him, you can do some cool vwishy vwooshy anime bullshit, which is the whole point considering the fact that he's a canon Japanophile and massive weeb.

>Narrative
Meh. It had some okay moments but it was otherwise unremarkable. It felt like the first half of a full story which was surprising, considering the fact that the game just ends with no climax or fanfare.
>Campaign
All of the campaign missions were actually very good. Structured and paced extremely well. I enjoyed playing the game a lot, even if it wasn't "perfectly" traditional Halo

Migrating from >>>/vg/1/#637
I've been playing Darius Gaiden all month and finally finished a 1cc. Here's Neon Light Illusion, my favorite boss of the ones I've encountered. The bosses are all giant robotic sea creatures, which I think is cool. I'm emulating the PSX version, so there's a bit of slowdown.
This game's levels are arranged in a pyramid, so at the end of each zone, you choose between 2 zones to play next. I settled on ABEHLQV, which I found to be the path of least resistance. It's a fun system. There are many zones I haven't even seen, so it's good for replay value. I wonder if the ending changes depending on the route you take.
Not shown here, there is also a feature where you can capture midbosses and have them fight alongside you. It's very rewarding, since they have strong attacks and cool designs, plus they give you bonus points at the end.
I had to adjust to how the bombs work in this game, as they don't make you invulnerable until shortly after you press the button, meaning you have to plan ahead to use them effectively, rather than reacting to the immediate situation. They also immobilize enemies, tying into the aforementioned system by making captures easier.
There's a subtle rank system in this game, as in most shmups. Rank is increased by firing, wiping out enemy formations, and destroying optional parts of bosses, so careful shooting is required to keep the difficulty manageable. I arrived at the final boss with a higher rank than usual on this run, but my stockpiled lives and bombs carried me through. I think capturing midbosses also increases rank, but I couldn't resist going for most of them.
The graphics are pleasant, and the soundtrack is top-notch. If you like what you see, check this game out. I hear it's the peak of the series, but I haven't tried the rest.

My sights have recently been put upon the Nu-Doom games. I replayed 2016 and Eternal, and find that I still quite hate both of those games. However, with the advent of modding, I've come to REALLY enjoy Doom Eternal MUCH MUCH more. I'm considering writing a review for these games soon too.
